There is very much a community spirit at Papageno. The management support and have pioneered many local community projects, and only employ people from the neighbouring village. They are aware of the area's ecological sensitivity and are careful not to cause any type of pollution. Solar panels provide most of their electricity.
Preserving traditional Fiji life, organic vegetables are grown on the resort, they have an extensive fruit orchard and raise their own pigs and chickens. All the meals served are freshly prepared and they make delicious home-made bread and baked goods. The architecture is very traditional on the outside but inside the décor is elegant and stylish.
The reef in front of the resort is a protected marine reserve therefore no one else is allowed to dive there. Papageno also has a parrot sanctuary for the island's threatened endemic shining parrots which are only found on Kadavu. The resort cares for sick and abandoned parrots and, where possible, releases them back into the wild.
For an intimate, eco-type atmosphere in a tranquil, beautiful location with some of Fiji's best dive sites just a short hop away then Papageno is a great option for your Fiji diving trip.
