The largest island in the Caribbean, for political reasons Cuba can look like a land lost in time. Its Spanish colonial and sometimes crumbling architecture, its streets full of vintage cars, and its shocking lack of public utilities that international travelers often take for granted, can leave tourists with a feeling of sentimentality, nostalgic familiarity, but equally at times frustrated. But nonetheless Cuba represents a unique vacation experience and Havana is often the starting point, with its famous old town that was founded in 1519, waterfront, museums, architecture, music, dance and art.

Other cities such as Santiago de Cuba, Santa Clara and the World Heritage Trinidad and all worth visiting. The Vinales Valley, with its spectacular limestone rock formations and traditional tobacco farms, is another UNESCO site. And along the south coast is the Jardines de la Reina National Park, where you can dive on spectacular reefs among a plethora of sharks, groupers, and the odd saltwater caiman.
