Racha Yai Artificial Reef a Success!

You may remember at the end of last year we reported on the sinking of the old dive boat, Harruby, off the island of Koh Racha Yai in order to create an artificial reef? Well the reef has turned out to be a resounding success, with up to 100 divers visiting the ‘Star Ruby Point” reef daily.

Mr Paitoon of the Phuket Provincial Office reports that a large diversity of fish are now making their home at this new artificial reef.

The aim of the new reef is to reduce pressure on the other natural coral dive spots near Phuket, by offering more sites for divers to explore. In this way the project management hopes to help the ecosystem to thrive.

This could be an alternative destination if you plan to do some day trip diving in Koh Racha Yai.
