A trip to the Galapagos Islands may only be dream for many of us but it’s still possible to retrace Charles Darwin’s step with the aid of Google Street View. Rather than pedestrians with blurred faces, you come across giant tortoises, blue footed boobies and marine iguanas and with the help of Seaview Survey you can even ‘walk’ underwater and have a look around the reefs accompanied by it’s playful sea lions!

As well as giving the ‘armchair adventurers’ a wonderful insight into these unique and diverse islands, there is also a scientific value to this project, it’s 178 years since Darwin’s historic journey and the the islands have been studied for generations but have never been well mapped says Sven Lorenz of the Darwin Foundation:

“There has always been satellite imagery, of course, but to now take that next step and work with Google to provide better mapping for Galapagos is something that is very important for our work, and much appreciated.”
