Turtle Fun Run in Phuket

The 1st of June 2008 sees an event being hosted to highlight the plight of leatherback turtles in Thailand with a Turtle Fun Run in Phuket. As everybody knows, turtles worldwide are under threat and the leatherback turtle is perhaps the closest to extinction and funds and action are needed to attempt to rescue the species.

All comers are welcome from kids to grannies to join in the activities including runs of 7 km, 3.5 km and a turtle fun run rally, with prizes on offer such as free stays in some of Thailand’s Marriott hotels and tour packages around Phuket.

The start and finish lines are at Pru Jeh Sun Lake, near Baan Mai Khao and you can register on the day from 7.30 a.m. The 7km run starts at 8:15 am and the 3.5km run starts at 8:20 am, with the rally taking place after runners return.

There is a 200 baht entry fee for the 7 km run; 100 baht for the 3.5 km run; and 50 baht for children under 15 years old in either race. Entry to the rally is free.

Participants will receive a souvenir medallion and entry into a lucky draw. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation.

Tickets can be bought in advance at the front desk of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa. For more information contact Michelle Mouille.
