Malaysia Tourism - Activities in Sabah

Borneo Adventure Tours!

Borneo may be famous among divers thanks to its incredibly rich and diverse seas but there are plenty of things to do above water too. Adventure opportunities are endless here - from climbing the spectacular Mount Kinabalu to whitewater rafting, to visiting orangutans, or sea kayaking around the islands.

Cruise on the Kinabatangan River, Sabah

Dive The World have teamed up with the Traverse Tours, experts in Malaysia tourism and adventures tours in Sabah. They are based in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, the provincial capital city of Sabah, and specialise in organising all sorts of fun activities for the days when you're not underwater.

Many of these exciting activities are available as day trips or overnight stays from Kota Kinabalu. Other tours are further afield and can be included in your Borneo travel itinerary.

You can email them for further details at:

Climbing Mount Kinabalu

Mount Kinabalu rising to 4,101 metres, is the highest peak in Southeast Asia. To climb the mountain and descend takes 2 days, with an overnight stay in a comfortable high altitude lodge. You don't need to be an olympic athlete to make the climb, so long as you are in reasonable physical shape. If you are lucky enough to have a clear morning sky (no guarantees), the views from the summit are quite amazing. Always the high point of a holiday in Sabah!

  • Mt. Kinabalu Climb - 2 day / 1 night tour

Traverse Tours will organise: return transfers, meals (lunch & dinner on Day 1, breakfast & lunch on Day 2), All climbing fees (permit, insurance, mountain guide, entrance fee & certificate), Poring Hot Springs Tour & entrance fee, and accommodation at the park.

Climbing Mount Trusmadi

Mount Trusmadi, Malaysian Borneo

Mount Trusmadi tops out at 2,642 metres, making it the second highest peak in Malaysia. It is much less well-known than Mt Kinabalu, but the lack of availability at the more famous of the 2 makes Trusmadi a great option for those who still wish to come climbing and to look down over the Crocker Range in the morning mist.

In fact the climb is much more interesting since, unlike the endless steps of Mt. Kinabalu, Trusmadi has a series of trails cutting through thick jungle. So it is a full body workout, grabbing the roots and branches as you make your way to the summit. There is also a lot more for those with an interest in botany since the mountain is home to a proliferation of endemic species.

  • Mt. Trusmadi Climb - 2 day / 1 night tour

Traverse Tours will organise: return transfers, meals (lunch & dinner on Day 1, breakfast & lunch on Day 2), All climbing fees (permit, insurance, mountain guide, entrance fee), camping equipment, tents, cooking equipment.
