Have a pioneering spirit? Consider these remote diving holidays

As the world’s population continues to explode and the cost of travel becomes more affordable with many new low cost carriers transversing the globe, you may be wondering where I can escape for my hard earned diving vacation and just get away from it all?

Need a little inspiration? Consider joining a liveaboard cruise to one of these far flung destinations:

Cuba’s Jardines de la Reina

Dive Jardines de la Reina with the Halcon liveaboardThis pristine marine park has had the fortune of being protected for over 20 years. Today a limited number of divers have the privilege of experiencing the wonders of Jardines de la Reina, one of the largest marine reserves in the Caribbean.

Your transfer to the park will begin with an overnight stay in Havana. A 4am departure to your liveaboard will include a 5-6 hour bus ride and a 3 hour boat voyage. Your journey will be rewarded with diving “the most incredibly well protected and flourishing reef I’ve ever seen” (as the area was described by Dr. David E. Guggenheim, an American marine biologist and senior fellow at the Ocean Foundation in Washington.) Your Cuban dive logs will no doubt include 6 different species of shark, saltwater crocs, healthy coral life and an abundance of fish, rays and turtles.

Diving remote Philippine sites

Philippine liveaboard diving tours with Seadoors, Philippine Siren and Atlantis AzoresLiveaboard diving in the Philippines offers you a variety of exceptional dive experiences. You will be spoilt for choice with what’s on offer. Here are a few suggestions to whet your appetite.

Tubbataha Reef was recently nominated as one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the Natural World’ and includes pristine drop-offs. Malapascua is known for rare encounters with thresher sharks and spectacular walls. Some cruises take in the diving hot spots of the Visayas and others include macro diving or an abundance of whale sharks. No matter which cruise you choose, you can’t lose.

Easy breezy diving in Saba & St. Kitts

Explore St. Kitts during your Saba & St. Kitts Caribbean liveaboard cruiseIf your wish list includes a dive destination far from the maddening crowds but without an adventurous arduous journey to get there, Saba & St. Kitts is for you.

Your diving liveaboard cruise aboard the Caribbean Explorer II gives you the unique opportunity to visit two island nations during one cruise. Departures and returns alternate between the Caribbean Netherlands island of St. Maarten and St. Kitts (one half of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis).

Saba is a dormant volcano that rises from the seabed. It’s origins make for unusual dive sites, such as lava tunnels, underwater hot springs, spur and groove formations, and sheer walls.

The area around the island was declared a marine park over 15 years ago, long before it became internationally known as a dive destination. Both marine life and corals are diverse and abundant and include some big ticket fish, including whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, dolphins and manta rays.

Currents are mild, visibility is great and relaxed diving is suitable for all divers and is made straight from the liveaboard.

Maybe you already have an off the beaten path destination in mind (such as The Caribbean islands, Turks & Caicos or you’ve read about the incredible Sudan diving in the Red Sea or you’d like to experience Myanmar while tourism is still in it’s infancy) but the remoteness has seemed daunting. Not a problem, we provide suggested travel routes and even share links for visa requirements.
