The popularity of the resort was evidenced when it won first place in the prestigious 2003 Readers Choice Award as Best Value as a Resort in the World by Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine. Value is the key word with great week-long packages, family deals and dorm rooms for those whose purse strings may not otherwise stretch to diving off The Somosomo Strait's world-famous sites. All rooms have TV and internet access.
The resort is the closest to the world famous Rainbow Reef in Taveuni, an easy 15 minute boat ride. Night dives are also taken on this giant reef complex and, being such a dedicated dive resort, there are few places better to take a PADI dive course than under the watchful, professional eyes of the dive operation at Garden Island Resort.
For a quiet romantic resort in Taveuni, Maravu Plantation Resort may be a better choice. Garden Island Resort is more suited to serious divers, those who prefer shorter boat trips and those with a smaller budget in mind.

There are 15 modern and well appointed Ocean View rooms with private balconies. There are also 15 luxurious Ocean Front Spa rooms which are larger with private outdoor patios and feature plunge pools.
The room building runs along the waterfront and all the rooms have a balcony or deck area with spectacular sunset views over the Somosomo Strait. There is room service and the rooms are just a few steps away from 1 of the 2 resort swimming pools.

Garden Island Resort is closest to the famous Rainbow Reefs, which is practically on their doorstep, about a 15 minute boat ride away. This PADI 5 Star Gold Palm Resort runs 2 morning dives each day starting at 08:45 am on Rainbow Reef, with the possibility of an afternoon or night dive depending on demand and weather conditions.
Corals only bloom on the correct tide so your dive site selections are dependent on prevailing tides.
The dive centre has an 9.5 metre twin-engine dive boat taking up to 12 divers. Fresh water showers and rinse tanks (including seperate camera tank) are available at the centre.

Dive trips include divemaster, drinking water, tanks, weights and weightbelts. The staff provide a kit transfer and rinsing service.
