Note: The Kangaroo Explorer liveaboard is currently out of the water until further notice.

MV Kangaroo Explorer is a great way to dive the very best that a Cairns Outer Barrier Reef liveaboard tour has to offer.

It is a 4 star steel-hulled liveaboard boat that remains on the reef and you can be transferred, any day of the week, to and from your floating hotel. This means that there is no time wasted getting around to the finest dive sites including Moore, Milln, Briggs, Elford and Thetford reefs. Package trips are normally for 2 or 3 days, but you can stay for as long as you wish!

The Kangaroo Explorer is a great option for those who are short of time or on a budget but it does not have to mean you need to sacrifice on comfort. All of the cabins, which are either 2 or 4 share, are fully air-conditioned with en-suite bathroom facilities.

Other facilities include a saloon with air-conditioning and full entertainment systems including TV, DVD player and hi-fi. There is also a sundeck with sun chairs for those who prefer to spend their down time catching rays or star-gazing in the cool of the evening. So if time or money are short, or you wish to spend time liveaboard diving right on top of the Cairns Barrier Reef then spring into action and hop on board the MV Kangaroo Explorer.

    Customer reviews:

    Customer rating - Excellent
"I received a double bed cabine which I was assigned to me during the whole time, which I highly appreciated. The cabine was very nice. About the staff I can only say the best, very nice and helpful folks. Also food and equipment was in order." - , Switzerland, 26 December 2014 ...

    Customer rating - Excellent
"Solid equipment, very friendly staff. The daily schedule is well thought out. Plenty of diving, with ample time for rest and relaxation. Daily transfers from the mainland enable constant resupply, which means fresh vegetables are part of the menu. The community of people on the boat (both guests and crew) was great - people from all over the world, all very friendly and engaging. This experience was exactly what we were looking for in terms of cost, quality and variety of dives, service, and value." - , USA, 7 January 2014 ...

    Customer rating - Very good
"Equipment, except for the poor condition of stinger suits and not enough of them, was good. This was our first dive liveaboard experience. Continuity of equipment and staff made it very comfortable. The instructor for our Adventure Dive Cert was outstanding. The photographer was very personable. Very good for a budget operator.
Food could be improved, dinner was OK, but lunches were just passable. For budget minded folks and backpackers it was great.

    Customer rating - Very good
"Very well organised, all gear seemed to be in good condition. Schedules were managed well and communicated to us, dive briefings were held and meals were enjoyable, cabins were neat and bigger than expected. " - , South Africa, 21 November 2011 ...

    Customer rating - Very good
"The equipment and facilities were of a high standard. Would have preferred full length wet suits but it was still alright. The service provided by the staff was excellent. Very informative and friendly. The staff were cheerful and enthusiastic, willing to help when required and provide the necessary information regarding the dive experience.
The vegetarian option was limited in most meals to potatoes - fries, wedges etc - which wasn't pleasing. I would definitely ask for there to be a wider choice of ingredients for vegetarian meals.
    " - , Australia, 3 October 2011 ...

    Customer rating - Very good
"Problems: Limitations of hot fresh water for shaving/showering (3 minute shower per day only); minimal luggage allowed (1 small carry-on only); no towels or access to a dryer provided; food good but minimal choice available. We have been on a Nekton liveaboard, which we would rate as a 5, because: no limitations on personal water use; in fact, they had a lovely hottub on board; they provided fresh hot towels each time we came in from a dive, as well as towels in the cabins; there was no limitations on luggage; and the meals offered plenty of variety." - , Canada, 23 December 2010 ...
