The MV Jazz is a British owned Burma liveaboard with a lot of character. It is a great lower priced option for diving in the Similans and Burma Banks.

It is a smaller boat than some of its rivals, but it is in fact quite spacious, particularly the dive deck which caters comfortably for a full boat of 16 scuba divers.

There are 4 double bed cabins and 4 twins, half of each type being en-suite; the others have shared bathrooms.

You can spend your down time in Burma relaxing in the air conditioned lounge and enjoying all the mod-cons they have such as TV, DVD and music system, or you can catch a few rays on the sun deck at the bow of the boat.

Dining takes place in the large, shaded open air dining area on the upper deck, where you can enjoy the buffet style menu consisting of both international cuisine as well as mouth-watering Thai favourites.

On a Burma liveaboard where there are 4 divemasters catering to the needs of 16 divers (at the most) you can expect plenty of personal attention and a more personalised underwater experience. For those wanting to enjoy the best diving in the Burma Banks, the Mergui Archipelago and Thailand, yet not wanting to spend big bucks for the privilege, there are no better options that the MV Jazz.

Customer reviews:

"The crew are helpful and entertaining, but the boat needs more maintenance. Air-conditioning was bad and nights could get really warm. There was practically no warm shower in the shared bathrooms as they had some mechanical problems. On the overall, the crew was fun." - , Singapore, 10 January 2011 ...

"The crew was very professional from the cook to the instructors/divemasters, everyone knew their jobs. The service was excellent!!! Both divemasters were very experienced with the Similan / Surin and Burma dive sites and did an excellent job dealing with the different level of divers on our trip. Every dive had something special to see as far as species, and the guides knew where to find the frogfish, sea horses etc.
... The M/V Similan Jazz was built 4-6 years ago specifically for diving and is set up almost perfect. The cabins were clean with their own private bathrooms and cabinets and your own key lock for safe keepings. The sun deck was spacious and the dining area was plenty big with coverage from the sun. The boat and trip was a great value. It is no Ocean Rover, and does not cost as much, however, if I was asked to pick one, I would be right back on the Jazz hands down!
