Raja Ampat needs little introduction. This remote corner of eastern Indonesia sits at the heart of the Coral Triangle, where marine biodiversity reaches its global peak. Manta rays glide over cleaning stations. Wobbegong sharks lie motionless among sponges. Pygmy seahorses cling to sea fans, and if you look very closely, tiger shrimps peer out from their hiding spots. The diving here works year round, with water temperatures sitting comfortably in the high 20s Celsius.

HamuEco Dive Resort makes this world class destination accessible to divers on a tighter budget. Built in 2011, this small, locally owned property sits on the south coast of Waigeo Island, bordering the Dampier Strait. The location puts you within easy reach of the region's most famous dive sites, including Cape Kri, Blue Magic, and Manta Ridge. Yet HamuEco Dive Resort keeps its pricing straightforward and its atmosphere relaxed.

Accommodation comes in 2 styles. The overwater rooms stand on wooden stilts above the shallows, each with a small balcony, a hammock, and a westward view across the strait. The villa beach rooms sit right on the sand, slightly larger at 24 sqm, with outdoor showers and space to dry dive gear. Both options include air conditioning, a private bathroom with warm water, and full board meals. There are only a handful of rooms. That keeps the guest numbers low and the environmental footprint light. The restaurant serves Indonesian home cooking. Most meals use fish caught by local fishermen, plus chicken, rice, vegetables, and the herbs and spices that define the region's cuisine. You eat on a beachfront deck with views across to Gam, Mansuar, and Batanta islands. Drinking water, tea, and coffee stay available 24/7. The resort does not serve alcohol, which suits the quiet, nature-focused atmosphere.

Diving from HamuEco Dive Resort operates from an onsite dive centre. The house reef sits right off the jetty, good for unguided day or night dives. For guided boat dives, the resort runs trips to sites within 12 kilometres, covering the best of the Dampier Strait. Equipment rental is available by the day: BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask and fins. Dive computers and underwater cameras can also be hired. Nitrox is not listed, so plan for air fills.

A few practical details matter. HamuEco Dive Resort has no fixed check-in or check-out days. You can arrive and leave when it suits you, with no minimum stay. The resort now runs on 24 hour electricity. Transfers from Waisai port are included in packages. For the trip from Sorong, the resort can arrange a car and ferry transfer for an additional fee. Raja Ampat entrance fees are not included, so budget separately for those.

Beyond diving, you can snorkel the house reef, join a land tour to the Blue River, go island hopping, or spend a morning bird watching. The sun deck out front works well for stargazing on clear nights. HamuEco Dive Resort is not luxury. It is honest, comfortable, and run by people who live there. For divers who want to spend their money on bottom time rather than on marble floors, it makes perfect sense.
HamuEco Dive Resort keeps things simple, comfortable, and focused on the water. The property offers two accommodation styles, each designed to let you wake up close to the sea.

Overwater Rooms:
6 wooden rooms stand on stilts above Saleo Beach, facing west across the Dampier Strait. You fall asleep to the gentle sound of waves beneath the floor. Morning brings bird calls and sunlight through the window. From your balcony, you watch the sunset behind Gam and Waigeo islands.
Each overwater room is 16 sqm and comes with: Queen bed or twin beds (convertible to double), white cotton linens - 24 hour air conditioning - Private bathroom with western toilet and shower - Balcony with lounge chair and hammock - 220V electrical outlets (Indonesian standard) - Towel per guest.

Villa Beach Rooms:
Built in 2018, the 2 villa rooms sit directly on the beach. They offer more space, 24 sqm, and a slightly different layout. Each villa has an ensuite bathroom with an outdoor shower and a western toilet. There is a dedicated area to dry dive gear, which matters more than you might think after a week of multiple daily dives.
Each villa beach room includes: Queen bed, white cotton linens - 24 hour air conditioning - Private bathroom with open-air shower and western toilet - Balcony with 2 chairs - Table and chair - 220V electrical outlets (Indonesian standard) - Towel per guest - Spacious gear drying area.
Raja Ampat is the most diverse marine environment on Earth and its remote, protected, and spectacular reefs are thought by many scuba divers to be the best in the world. HamuEco Dive Resort packages include 2 or 3 boat dives per day, plus unguided jetty or house reef dives. The daily dive schedule is an 8 am departure for 2 or 3 dives. If making 2 dives, divers return at noon; 3-dive days return at 3 pm and include a packed lunch. The resort keeps the schedule consistent, so you can plan your surface intervals and rest periods.

2 wooden dive boats serve the resort, each 6 metres long with a roof for sun and rain protection. Twin 40 HP Yamaha engines provide reliable power. Ladders make reboarding straightforward. Maximum capacity is five divers per boat, but HamuEco Dive Resort typically runs with just 4 guests plus 1 dive guide. That ratio, 4 to 1, means your guide can point out pygmy seahorses, wobbegongs, and the smaller camouflaged creatures that make Raja Ampat famous.

A wide selection of sites are available within a 12 km radius of the resort, all of which are 20-30 minutes ride with their dive boat. These include: Mioskon, Five Rocks, Saonek, Friwen, Mike's Point, Blue Magic, Sardines, Cape Kri, Chicken Reef. More remote sites can be requested for supplemental charges, such as Penemu, Arborek, Sawandarek Jetty, Yenbuba, Manta Sandy, Mansuar.

The dive center has all the basics covered covered for those that want to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world of Raja Ampat. They have sets of snorkelling equipment sets; mask, snorkel and fins and diving equipment, underwater torches and cameras, dive computers, scuba tanks and a Bauer compressor, and a soaking area for washing and drying guest snorkelling and diving equipment. The HamuEco dive centre offers:
* Guided boat dives - The standard daily offering, with sites chosen based on conditions and guest experience.
* Unguided house reef dives - The jetty and house reef are available for independent diving, day or night. Tanks, weights, and weight belts are included; a guide costs extra.
* Guided house reef dives - A guide joins you on the jetty or house reef, day or night.
* Introductory dives - For non-certified guests, including full equipment.
* Night dives are available on the house reef, either guided or unguided. The jetty structure attracts different nocturnal life: crabs, shrimp, sleeping parrotfish, and sometimes hunting octopus.

Each dive boat carries emergency oxygen and a mobile phone for communication back to the resort. The guest-to-guide ratio of 4 to 1 means your guide can keep close watch. HamuEco Dive Resort does not operate a recompression chamber on site; the nearest chamber is in Sorong. Divers are expected to carry their own dive insurance and to dive within their certification limits. The resort recommends a safety stop on every dive, and guides will enforce conservative profiles when conditions warrant.
Raja Ampat is famous for what lies beneath the water. But the landscape above is just as striking. HamuEco Dive Resort sits on Saleo Beach, on the south coast of Waigeo Island, with the Dampier Strait spread out in front and forested hills behind. When you are not diving, there is plenty to fill your surface intervals.

Birdwatching - West Papua is known for its birds of paradise, and the forests around Waigeo hold several species. HamuEco Dive Resort arranges one-day birdwatching tours by boat. The target for most guests is the Wilson's bird of paradise and the red bird of paradise. Both are spectacular: the males perform courtship displays in the early morning light. Tours include a local guide, boat rental, fuel, and entrance fees. Bring your own binoculars or ask about rental options.

Kalibiru Warsamdim Tour - For a change of scenery, take a day trip to Kalibiru, a blue-water river hidden in the forest near Warsamdin village. The journey takes about 15 minutes by boat from the resort, followed by a 30-minute trek upstream through the jungle. The path is straightforward but requires basic fitness. At the end, you find a small pool of clear, cool water surrounded by dense vegetation. It is a peaceful spot for a swim and a picnic away from the coast.

Island Exploration - The resort can arrange boat trips to nearby islands. Options include visiting local villages, walking along undeveloped beaches, or simply finding a quiet stretch of sand to read and rest. The guides know the area well and can tailor the route to your interests, whether that means snorkelling a new reef, photographing the coastline, or learning about local life.

House Reef Snorkelling - You do not need a boat to see marine life. The house reef runs along the jetty and the shallows in front of the resort. Snorkellers can spend hours drifting over coral patches, watching anemonefish, parrotfish, and the occasional turtle. Snorkel gear is available for rent at the dive centre.

Relaxation & Sundeck - The resort's beachfront sundeck serves as the main gathering spot. Sun loungers and hammocks face the strait. The view takes in Gam, Mansuar, and Batanta islands. Late afternoon is the best time since the light softens, the air cools, and the sky turns through shades of orange and pink. Some guests fall asleep out here waiting for the stars to come out.

Dining & Social Area - Meals are served in the open-air restaurant overlooking the beach. The kitchen prepares Indonesian dishes using local fish, chicken, rice, and vegetables. Drinking water, tea, and coffee are available 24/7 from a self-service station. The atmosphere is communal. Guests share tables, swap stories about the morning's dive, and compare notes on what they saw. The resort does not serve alcohol, which keeps the evenings quiet and conversation-focused.

HamuEco Dive Resort is not a place for discos, swimming pools, or room service. It is a small, family-run operation that prioritises the natural environment and local community. The amenities are basic but comfortable. The real luxury is the location: right on the edge of the Dampier Strait, with some of the richest reefs on earth within a 20-minute boat ride. When you are not diving, you watch birds, explore rivers, or simply lie in a hammock and watch the tide come in.
The restaurant at HamuEco Dive Resort sits directly on the beach, facing west across the Dampier Strait. On clear days, you look out to Mansuar, Gam, and Batanta islands. The view alone would be enough. But the kitchen gives you another reason to show up for meals. The menu leans into local Indonesian cooking - rice, vegetables, fresh fish, and chicken, seasoned with herbs and spices rather than heavy sauces. The resort buys fish and seafood from local fishermen, so what lands on your plate was likely swimming that morning. Meals are served buffet style or family style, depending on the size of the guest group.

Breakfast is simple but sufficient: eggs, rice, noodles, toast, fruit, and coffee or tea. Lunch and dinner bring more variety. A typical dinner might include grilled fish with sambal, stir-fried vegetables, white rice, and a small bowl of soup. The kitchen also prepares Indonesian classics like nasi goreng, mie goreng, and chicken curry.

Water, hot water, tea, and coffee are available 24 hours a day from a self-service station in the dining area. You fill your own flask after dives, in the middle of the night, or whenever you need. No restrictions, no extra charges.
HamuEco Dive Resort does not serve alcohol. This is a deliberate choice. The resort keeps a quiet, nature-focused atmosphere. If you want a beer with dinner, you will need to bring your own. There are small shops in Waisai where you can buy supplies before transferring to the resort.

Outside the dining area, a wooden sundeck faces the strait. Guests eat here when the weather is fine, or simply sit and watch the tide change. The deck catches the afternoon sun and holds the evening warmth. After dark, the lack of nearby lights makes for excellent stargazing. Some guests fall asleep out here, wrapped in a towel, waking only when the first fishing boats motor past at dawn.

Practical Notes:
- Full board meals are included in all package rates.
- The kitchen can accommodate basic dietary requests (vegetarian, gluten-free) with advance notice.
- Drinking water is refillable and filtered; no need to buy plastic bottles.
- Meal times are flexible but generally follow the dive schedule: breakfast before the 8 am boat, lunch around noon or as a packed meal on 3-dive days, dinner after sunset.

At HamuEco Dive Resort, you do not come for the fine dining. You come for honest, home-cooked Indonesian food, eaten with your feet in the sand, looking out at one of the most beautiful seascapes on the planet.
