At Turneffe Island Dive Resort and Spa you'll find warm hospitality and luxury facilities on a beautiful, private tropical island. The 57,000 sqm. island is owned by the resort and is located on the southern tip of Turneffe Atoll, just moments away from many of Turneffe's best dive sites, including The Elbow (the resort is the nearest accommodation option to it).

The recently renovated rooms are elegant and stylish while still retaining that unique 'Hemingway' feel. The en-suite rooms and villas are furnished with polished mahogany wood panelling and flooring and large windows. As a single traveller in off-peak times, you may be allowed to share a room, subject to availability. Their dive packages include full board, free snacks served all day long, morning tea/coffee room service and boat transfers from Belize City. There is a helipad at the resort for those who opt to travel by air.

Rich and diverse marine life at over 20 Belize dive sites await you along with the world-famous dive sites of Lighthouse Reef Atoll and the Blue Hole. This full day trip includes lunch on Half Moon Caye beach and a visit to the red footed booby Sanctuary. Bottom time on dives is unlimited so the in-house nitrox facility will come in handy to make the most of this great allowance. Trips to the local Turneffe sites are single tank affairs, which means you will be back at the resort usually within 1.5 hours of departure - great for those travelling with non-diving partners.

Other activities at the Turneffe Island Resort include world-class fly fishing and kayaking, but the focus these days is on scuba diving and 'fishing + diving' packages are also available. For those looking for relaxation you can chill-out on your private seaview deck, have a dip in the freshwater pool or, for the ultimate in relaxation, indulge in a heavenly massage at the resort's own spa. Snorkelling and atoll exploration packages are available for those with a more adventurous spirit.

A unique feature on the island is the innovative use of daylight saving. Clocks are moved 1 hour forward of mainland Belize to make better use of the day light hours at the atoll.

Destinations:  Turneffe Reef (Diving environment: wall diving, healthy reefs, beginner & advanced divers; Highlights: manatees, turtles, schooling fish/big pelagics) - The Elbow, Front Porch, Black Beauty, Sayonara Wreck - 20 different dive sites.
Also a full-day excursion to Lighthouse Reef (Diving environment: wall diving, healthy reefs, beginner & advanced divers; Highlights: great macro life/marine diversity, schooling fish/big pelagics), and
the Blue Hole (Diving environment: caverns, advanced divers; Highlights: ), Half Moon Caye and Long Caye (Lighthouse Reef) is included on Tuesdays. Generally, no diving on days of arrival or departure.

Resort accommodation includes:  Bed, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinking water, coffee and tea, roundtrip resort transfers from Belize City, internet access.
Accommodation excludes (mandatory):  12.5% GST on package prices. Single supplement on single travellers only, payable in advance.
Single Supplement:  This is a compulsory additional charge on single travellers for the sole occupancy of double/twin accommodation.

How to get there:  Turneffe Island Resort is located on the southern tip of Turneffe Atoll, 56 km from Belize City. The resort offers complimentary boat transfers on Saturdays and Wednesdays from Belize City at 2:30 pm. The journey takes 1.5 hrs. It is also possible to arrange a helicopter arrival instead. Rooms, Beds, Bathrooms, Views...
At Turneffe Island Resort there are 21 seafront, en-suite guest rooms with unobstructed sea-views and fully-screened porches. Each one has been tastefully furnished in hardwood and has air-conditioning, ceiling fan and either one king size bed or a queen size and double bed. You can literally step out of you room and onto the island's white sandy beaches.

There are 8 Deluxe rooms and 4 second floor Superior rooms with better ocean views, located in duplex or 2-storey properties. The 9 stand alone Villas are located a short distance away from the main part of the resort to provide more privacy. They have a small sofa and are slightly larger than the Deluxe and Superior rooms, which are identical to each other in all aspects except the view.

The high quality of the accommodation is maintained by a rigorous maintenance policy that includes annual refurbishment and re-polishing.

    Diving Details...
    Packages with Turneffe Island Resort consist of 15 dives a week. The resort visits the sites around the southern tip of the atoll, including the Elbow. The first dive is at 8:15 am, the second at 10.30 am and the last at 3 pm. Nitrox (32%) is available to EANx certified divers. 1 night dive is included in packages and usually takes place on a Thursday.

    A week-long dive package includes, weather permitting, a day trip every Tuesday to Lighthouse Reef to visit the famous Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye and Long Caye. The journey takes around 1.5 hours. The trip also includes an island visit to the Half Moon Caye bird sanctuary.

    The resort operates 3 boats for local dive sites, carrying a maximum of 8 divers each. These dive boats are 8m long and can develop up to 30 knots at maximum speed. They have tank racks and a ladder. As the local sites are only 5 to 15 minutes ride away, you will return to the resort after each dive where you can use the showers at the dock to rinse off. There is no shade on these boats so bring suitable sun protection. Coffee, tea and snacks are served in the restaurant.

    There are also an additional 2 larger boats equipped to provide full day trips to Lighthouse Reef. These are PRO-43, with a max speed of 25 knots. Up to 20 divers take a packed lunch, sodas and beers for apres-dive. Both these boats have a toilet facility, shaded area, rinse tank and ladders.

    Trips always include a skipper, divemaster, fresh orange slices, dry box, tanks, weights & weightbelts, towels and drinking water.

    The dive centre holds a PADI Resort license and has a guest equipment storage room, rinse tank, camera table with dedicated rinse tank, and a shower. Full sets of scuba equipment are available for hire. The resort offers Valet Diving: the friendly staff will set up, carry and rinse your gear so you can just relax and enjoy the amazing Belize dive sites.

    There are 3 permanent PADI instructors on site so the resort is able to offer diving courses and programmes from introduction dives and open water referrals to advanced courses.

    Facilities, Location, Recreation...
    The resort runs its operations without compromising the island's precious eco-system. Solar power provides some of the electricity and a unique water purification system has been installed. You can visit the spa for a range of massages and beauty treatments, or relax at the heated freshwater pool.

    If you're feeling more energetic take a sea kayak to explore the island's shoreline or try your hand at fly fishing. There is a Resort Package option that includes daily snorkeling tours, atoll sightseeing, bird watching and crocodile tours.

    Menu, Cuisine Type, Specialities...
    The resort serves delicious fresh meals 3 times a day in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Dishes are a mix of American and local Belizean specialities and include a variety of meats, fish, seafood, vegetables according to the season, soups, salads and hand-made desserts. A traditional Belize/Caribbean-style BBQ takes place every Friday night on the beachfront.

    Dive Safety, Resort Security...
    Belize's only hyperbaric chamber is in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye some 55 km to the north of Turneffe Island. The chamber facility provides a 24 hour emergency service and can be reached in just 10 minutes by helicopter evacuation or 30 minutes by boat. We recommend you take out your own scuba diving insurance.

    The dive boats are equipped with a medic first aid kit and emergency breathing oxygen (640 litres on all boats, plus large tank on Blue Hole trips), radio, satellite telephone and GPS. A divemaster is provided for every 8 divers. The resort also has additional oxygen and first aid.

    There is a medical evacuation plan in place and the resort owns The Predator - a super fast 250 HP twin engine evacuation vessel. It is capable of 65 knots and reaching the Belize mainland in just over 30 minutes.

    All managers are certified in first-aid procedures and can treat minor injuries. There are no medical facilities or personnel on the island. The nearest medical and police facilities are located 56 km away in Belize City.

    Each room at the resort has a lockable safety box for guests' valuables and there is a nightwatchman on guard at the property.
