Core Days
This tour focuses on the Ring of Fire's remote diving, combining the exceptional macro life of Ambon Bay with the pelagic thrill of the Banda and Forgotten Islands. The initial dives near Ambon Bay offer a unique muck diving environment, famous for finding unusual and rare critters, including various species of octopus, frogfish, and unique pipefish. This area provides a fascinating contrast to the blue water diving that follows.
The Seaisee then moves into the historical Banda Islands, or Spice Islands, where sheer walls and multi-coloured reefs await. Dive sites such as Suanggi, Run, Karang Hatta, and Batu Kapal offer stunning visibility and rich coral gardens that draw in pelagic species like dogtooth tuna, turtles, and mobula rays. The volcanic nature of the area is dramatically showcased at the Lava Flow site, where corals have rapidly colonised the solidified black rock, creating a unique and vibrant ecosystem. Near Banda Neira, an essential surface visit is made to a Spice Island to explore the region's history above water.
Continuing into the Forgotten Islands, the diving at these rarely visited sites is renowned for its scale and clear water, attracting schooling life. Core Days
This phenomenal route is a traverse across the remote Ring of Fire, linking the sheer walls and pelagic action of the Banda and Forgotten Islands with the celebrated macro sites of Alor and Ambon. The Banda Islands present intense blue water diving. At sites such as Batu Kepal and Karang Hatta, strong ocean currents wash over pinnacles, attracting dogtooth tuna and reef sharks. The volcanic geology of the region is evident at Pohon Miring and the unique Laval Flow, where young coral gardens have established themselves on solidified rock. A surface stop at Banda Neira provides historical insight into this famed Spice Island region.
Pushing deeper into the Forgotten Islands, the Seaisee targets the exposed, isolated sites famous for seasonal pelagic activity. Locations like Nil Desperandum, Nila, Terbang, and Nyata are renowned for high-likelihood sightings of schooling hammerhead sharks in the clear, deep water. Near the volcanic Pulau Manuk, divers encounter large colonies of sea snakes. Other remote sites like Gunung Api, Wetar, and Reong extend the potential for big animal encounters across pristine, rarely visited reefs. The experienced crew ensures the extensive route is thoroughly covered, providing confidence as you explore these geographically remote, high-energy regions.
The final leg of the safari offers an entirely different, but equally compelling, style of diving. Alor is a goldmine for macro enthusiasts, providing rare sightings of hairy frogfish, rhinopias, and pygmy seahorses against a dramatic backdrop of volcanic sand and lush coral slopes. The deep walls and drop-offs along the Pantar Strait near Alor offer exhilarating drift diving, frequently featuring schools of fusiliers and oversized bumphead parrotfish. Core Days
Diving with the Seaisee through the Komodo National Park exposes you to powerful currents that fuel some of the richest waters on the planet. The north-eastern sites demand confident diving. Around Gili Lawa, the submerged seamounts of Castle Rock and Crystal Rock are magnets for pelagic action, with schools of fusiliers and snapper hanging in the flow while grey reef sharks patrol the periphery. An adrenaline-charged drift dive through Shotgun is often possible here, offering a high-speed view of the stunning coral structure.
The tour often includes a change of pace at the volcanic island of Sangeang. Descending onto the black, iron-rich sands, you will find an ecosystem unique to this active area, where streams of thermal bubbles rise from the seabed. This habitat is a macro haven, perfect for photographers hunting for rare nudibranchs, rhinopias, and frogfish, providing a textural contrast to the hard and soft corals elsewhere.
The central and southern reaches of the park promise iconic Komodo experiences. At Tatawa and Siaba, the water may be calmer, flowing over shallow reefs and slopes frequented by resident green and hawksbill turtles. For the big fish enthusiast, Manta Alley is a signature location in the south, where consistent upwellings attract majestic oceanic manta rays to feed and visit their cleaning stations. The dedication of the Seaisee liveaboard ensures comprehensive coverage of these varied habitats.
In addition to the exceptional diving, the Seaisee trip includes essential surface highlights. You will visit Pink Beach, a location famed for the visual spectacle of its naturally tinted sand against the turquoise waters, perfect for snorkelling or a relaxing break. Then comes the fun part: claim your cabin, then head to the dive deck to set up your gear. Should the arrival schedule work in your favour, a familiarisation check‑dive will happen before nightfall. Dinner wraps up your first day aboard.
Core Days
The Dampier Strait, the epicentre of Raja Ampat’s biodiversity, is the primary focus, where strong tidal exchanges funnel nutrient-rich waters through the islands. This area consistently yields high fish biomass, offering world-class diving. Sites such as Cape Kri are rightly celebrated; here, divers drop onto a spectacular reef slope and current-fed pinnacle where the convergence of schools of barracuda, jacks, and grey reef sharks is often dramatic. Nearby, Pemenu and Yangeffo reveal diverse habitats, from shallow coral flats to sheltered bays, ideal for spotting turtles and large groups of cruising bumphead parrotfish.
The Seaisee diving tour reliably includes a stop at Manta Sandy, a key cleaning and feeding station where oceanic reef manta rays gather. Settling in the sand nearby allows for humbling observation of these majestic animals as they queue for attention from cleaner fish, a signature Raja Ampat encounter. While the big animal action is superb, the central park offers tremendous opportunities for macro photography. The endemic wobbegong carpet sharks are frequently encountered resting on the vibrant coral beds, alongside sightings of the minute epaulette walking shark.
A shift in scenery takes the Seaisee liveaboard west to the sheltered anchorages around Batanta and Aljui Bay. Here, the dive profile changes from swift current drifts to deliberate exploration of protected coves. Aljui Bay is particularly famed for its jetty dives and black sand muck diving, offering a treasure trove for macro enthusiasts. The contrast between Raja Ampat’s wide-angle pelagic spectacles and its intricate critters is what makes the Seaisee liveaboard safari so complete. The experienced dive guides on the Seaisee are known for locating cryptic species such as pygmy seahorses, various species of ghost pipefish, and countless colourful nudibranchs, ensuring no detail is overlooked.
Final Day
Wake up to your final morning onboard the Seaisee. A last relaxed breakfast precedes disembarkation in Sorong, concluding your scuba adventure in the Coral Triangle.

The remote nature of these islands means the coral remains untouched and marine life is abundant. Stops at sites like Koon provide deep-water visibility and vast schools of fish attracted by the oceanic currents. Here, you are seeking the thrilling sight of reef sharks, dogtooth tuna, and, seasonally, the spectacular sight of schooling hammerhead sharks that patrol the outer slopes.
The Banda Islands themselves hold a unique combination of natural and historical significance. Dive sites such as Batu Kepal and Karang Hatta feature plunging drop-offs adorned with multi-coloured reefs, while Pohon Miring and the extraordinary Lava Flow site reveal coral growth that has re-colonised solidified lava beds from the Gunung Api volcano. A visit to Banda Neira allows for a land excursion to explore the history of these famed Spice Islands, offering a memorable break from the water. The dedication of the Seaisee ensures access to these rarely visited, high-quality dive sites.
The final destination is Ambon, a renowned location for its concentrated macro life. Diving in Ambon Bay provides the chance to hunt for rare critters, complementing the wide-angle splendour of Raja Ampat and the Banda Sea. This exceptional range of underwater environments, all experienced from the comfort of the Seaisee liveaboard, guarantees a comprehensive and confidence-inspiring diving holiday.

Trip highlights: whale sharks, manta rays, turtles, great macro life/ marine diversity
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, off the beaten track
Dive sites and activities: Maratua, Kakaban, Sangalaki, Derawan, Whale Shark Point
Day 1
Upon arrival at the port in Tarakan, the friendly crew will greet you and assist you in settling into your new home aboard the magnificent Seaisee liveaboard. The cruise director will conduct a boat briefing, covering essential safety procedures, onboard facilities, and introductions to the crew and fellow guests. The afternoon is yours to unpack your dive gear, relax, and prepare for the incredible diving adventure ahead in Kalimantan’s breathtaking Maratua region. If all guests arrive on schedule, an optional check dive may be offered to help you get acclimated.
To kick off your journey, delicious snacks and dinner will be served on this first evening, ensuring a perfect start to your dive-filled getaway.
Core Days
One of the most thrilling dive spots in the region, Maratua’s walls deliver exhilarating big fish encounters. Expect massive schools of chevron barracuda, hunting trevallies, thresher sharks, and more.
A natural wonder, Kakaban Island features a breathtaking jellyfish lake and is surrounded by mangrove forests and steep drop-offs. Its walls attract huge schools of trevally and barracuda, along with occasional hammerheads, grey reef and blacktip reef sharks. But the real uniqueness lies in its famous stingless jellyfish - one of only 3 places on Earth where you can safely swim (and even gently touch) these mesmerising creatures without fear of stings!
Renowned for its reef manta ray gatherings, Sangalaki’s vibrant reefs serve as cleaning and breeding stations for these graceful giants. If conditions align, lucky divers may even encounter whale sharks gliding through the blue too.
Indonesia’s largest nesting site for endangered green and hawksbill turtles, Derawan offers unforgettable encounters - whether it's watching turtles laying their eggs on the beach, or swimming alongside them in the local waters. The biodiversity here is staggering: 460 coral species (second only to Raja Ampat) and 870+ fish species, from tiny pygmy seahorses to giant manta rays.
In recent years, divers have discovered a remarkable phenomenon off Kalimantan’s coast: whale sharks gathering near traditional fishing platforms (bagans). Locally called Labetti or Si Bintik ('the spotted one'), these gentle giants are seen as harbingers of good fortune by fishermen. The sharks feed on anchovies escaping the nets, offering divers a rare chance to observe them up close.
Note: On the final full day, only 2 dives will be conducted before the yacht begins its return journey to port.
Day 7
Final opportunity to enjoy croissants and hot drinks before you disembark in Tarakan and transfer to the airport or a local hotel.
