Samata is a wooden-hulled, Sulawesi-built schooner which focuses on all-inclusive liveaboard cruises. Samata means 'tranquility' and 'balance' in Sanskrit and the boat is well-named since it is a smooth and sturdy vessel and, at 42 metres in length, is a substantial boat.

From May to September each year, the liveaboard operates in the Komodo Island and Nusa Tenggara area, operating from Labuan Bajo so no time is spent getting to and from the national park. October and November sees Samata cruise the Banda Sea, Forgotten Islands and Ambon. Then from December to April, it relocates to Raja Ampat in West Papua.

There are a variety of trip durations operated and the schedule is open to change since, with a maximum of only 10 divers, Samata is a popular private whole boat charter. So if you have a group and want to set your own itinerary then the Samata's schedule can be flexible to your needs.

With 14 staff to 10 guests you will be more than well looked after and, under French ownership, both English and French are spoken on board. Soft drinks and beer are included in the price and there is a wide choice of wines as you would expect under French ownership.

There are delightful wood panelled floors and furniture throughout, including the 4 double en-suite cabins, the air-conditioned saloon and dining area, plus the outdoor seating areas and sun deck. There is plenty of relaxation space on board. Cruise price per person includes: Cabin accommodation with air-conditioning, breakfast, lunch, dinner, biscuits, coffee, tea and water, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, dives (as detailed in the trips above), scuba equipment, experienced English-speaking divemaster(s), return transfers to the boat from the local airport/hotel, wakeboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, land excursions, harbour fees, park fees, conservation fees, beach visits, all taxes.

How to get there: KLM Samata departs to Komodo Island from Labuan Bajo in Flores or Bali. Flights can be arranged by the operator. There is a minibus transfer service from airports to and from the boat in Labuan Bajo but not in Bali. For more details, including airlines, see our Bali travel information section.

Menu, Cuisine Type...

International cuisine and Chinese cuisine, with local specialities and BBQs will keep the stomachs full while onboard Samata.
Vegetarians and other special diets are catered for with prior notice.
Main meals comprise pre-breakfast, breakfast, lunch & dinner with snacks in between.
Biscuits, candy bars, bread/toast, fruit, tea & coffee, water, soft drinks and beer are free of charge.
Wine is available as additional extra.
The menus are fixed and meals are served buffet style in either the air-conditioned saloon or the outside area.
Catering starts with lunch or dinner on the first day of the trip, depending on the time of arrival.
