For divers looking to explore the rich waters of the Maldives from a modern, well-appointed base, the M/Y Blue liveaboard presents an attractive choice. Launched in 2019, this 41-metre vessel combines a sleek, contemporary design with a focus on comfortable, exploratory diving. With a hull built for smooth cruising, it operates cruises that stretch from the central atolls to the pelagic-rich southern channels, and north to Hanifaru Bay when the season brings its famous manta gatherings. The aim is to offer a genuine liveaboard experience that puts the emphasis on the diving, the relaxation, and the simple pleasures of life at sea.
Onboard, life is arranged for easy sociability and personal space. 22 guests settle into 11 ensuite cabins spread across 3 decks, with choices ranging from practical lower-deck accommodation to premium ocean-view rooms. Above deck, the open-plan sundeck invites you to stretch out in the sun between dives, perhaps with a soak in the hot tub, while the lounge and bar area become a natural gathering point at the end of the day.
A dedicated space for camera gear means your equipment has a safe home, ready for the next session. The dining is a genuine highlight: meals are served buffet-style, with the chef preparing a varied spread that draws on Japanese, Asian, European, and Maldivian influences. On calm evenings, dinner might shift to the upper deck, and when conditions allow, a beach barbecue adds a simple, memorable touch.
All diving is conducted from a separate 22-metre dhoni, which keeps the main vessel free of wet gear and compressor noise. The dhoni carries nitrox and air, along with essential safety equipment and a shower. Onboard, you will find experienced dive guides who know the atolls intimately. Guests are typically split into smaller groups based on experience and interest, and the rhythm of the day follows the classic liveaboard pattern: 2 dives in the morning, one in the afternoon, with a night dive offered on select evenings. The cruises are designed to give you a broad taste of what makes the Maldives a world-class destination - from drift dives over thilas to cleaner stations and channel dives where sharks and rays are regular characters in the landscape.
Choosing the M/Y Blue liveaboard means placing your trust in a team with years of experience running cruises in the Maldives and Mexico. The crew understands that the success of a trip hinges on the little things: a clear dive briefing, a welcoming smile at the end of a dive, a cabin kept tidy, and a meal that hits the spot after a day in the current. It is an operation geared towards divers who appreciate good logistics, a relaxed atmosphere, and the freedom to focus on the world below the surface. Whether you are keen to log your first night dive with sharks, photograph manta rays in clear water, or simply explore a new atoll each day, this M/Y Blue offers a stable, friendly platform for your underwater adventures.
Maldives Northern Atolls (Express) (8 Days / 7 Nights - 17 Dives)
Trip highlights: whale sharks, manta rays, turtles, schooling fish & big pelagics
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, healthy reefs, off the beaten track, wall diving
Dive sites and activities: North Male, Baa (Hanifaru Bay) and Goidhoo atoll
Day 1
On boarding in Male, the cruise director will introduce the crew, outline safety procedures, onboard services, meal times, and daily logistics, allowing time for any required paperwork. You may set up your equipment, enjoy a drink from the bar, and get acquainted with fellow guests. M/Y Blue departs later in the evening.
Core Days
This M/Y Blue liveaboard cruise focuses on 3 atolls, each with a distinct character. North Male sets the pace with current-swept channels where grey reef sharks hold formation in the blue. At sites like Manta Point, you hover on the edge of cleaning stations while mantas drift in and out, their gill plates flared. Elsewhere, pinnacles such as Hans Place rise from the deep, their slopes coated with soft corals and anthias. Tuna and jacks pass through, and eagle rays glide along the drop-offs. The diving here demands attention to the current, but the rewards are consistent.
Heading north, Baa Atoll takes over. This is UNESCO Biosphere Reserve territory, and the diving reflects its protected status. Hanifaru Bay is the crown jewel, though you enter as snorkellers only. If the southwest monsoon is blowing (roughly May to November), the water thickens with plankton, and mantas gather to feed, sometimes in groups that number in the dozens. They barrel-roll at the surface, white bellies flashing, while you float above. Whale sharks occasionally join the feast, though sightings are never guaranteed. Away from Hanifaru, thilas like Dhigu Thila offer cleaner encounters: grey reef sharks patrolling the blue, napoleon wrasses with curious eyes, and clouds of fusiliers shifting in the light.
Goidhoo Atoll, less visited, provides a quieter counterpoint. Here, the reefs are in good health, and the fish life is dense without the crowds. Turtles rest on coral blocks, and schools of batfish hang in the current. Night dives reveal a different world: sleepy parrotfish in their mucus cocoons, morays hunting, and the occasional nurse shark resting on the sand.
Day 8
After breakfast and your farewells on the last day in Male, the crew will transfer you back to land for your onward travels.
Maldives Central Atolls (8 Days / 7 Nights - 18 Dives)
Trip highlights: whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, shark action, manta rays, schooling fish & big pelagics
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, very popular, wreck diving
Dive sites and activities: South Male, North Male, Ari and Rasdhoo atolls
Day 1
The M/Y Blue liveaboard departs from Male and is ideal for guests exploring the central atolls of the Maldives. The cruise director introduces the staff and covers safety procedures, onboard services, meal times, and daily safari details, allowing time for any required paperwork. You can set up your equipment, enjoy a drink from the bar, and get to know fellow guests. Blue departs in the late evening.
Core Days
This liveaboard cruise of the Maldives' Central Atolls features dives at Ari, North and South Male atolls, with a focus on spotting manta rays and whale sharks, which are almost guaranteed. South Male offers large schools of fish, big pelagics, soft corals, caves, and a standout wreck. Miyaru Faru is its most famous site. It features a natural amphitheatre at 18m where divers can watch grey reef sharks cruise the blue. The site’s sheltered ledge is perfect for photographers. The sloping reef is where white tip reef sharks nap in crevices by day, while nurse sharks forage at night. Kuda Giri is a shipwreck teeming with glassfish, moray eels, and patrolling trevallies. The shallow top (12m) is ideal for snorkellers, while the deeper hull (25m) attracts big pelagics. Cocoa Thila is a submerged pinnacle with swirling baitballs of fusiliers, frequented by tuna, eagle rays, and grey reef sharks. Guraidhoo Kandu is a thrilling channel dive where strong currents attract silvertip sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and schools of barracuda.
Ari Atoll’s protected areas are known for whale sharks, with regular sightings of hammerheads, mantas, and other pelagics. The circular reef of Maaya Thila hosts juvenile reef sharks in its shallows, while the drop-off can attract hammerheads, Rangali Madivaru is a manta cleaning station where mantas glide overhead daily. One of the Maldives’ most famous sites is Fish Head, with schooling grey reefs, eagle rays, and occasional tiger sharks patrolling its pinnacle.
North Male showcases reefs, caves, current-swept channels and drop offs. Banana Reef is a classic site with caves, overhangs, and gorgonian fans. Look for dogtooth tuna, midnight snappers, and octopuses hiding in the reef. Lankan Point is a manta hotspot where these giants somersault in the current to feed on plankton. The coral-covered wall at HP Reef attracts with swirling jacks, rainbow runners, and hunting white tip sharks.
The final day includes 1 dive before the liveaboard returns to port.
Day 8
A final breakfast is served on the last morning of the cruise before disembarkation in Male.
Maldives Central & Northern Atolls (Express)
Trip highlights: whale sharks, shark action, manta rays, schooling fish & big pelagics
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, healthy reefs, off the beaten track, very popular, wall diving, wreck diving
Dive sites and activities: North Male, Baa (Hanifaru Bay), Goidhoo, Ari, South Male and Rasdhoo atolls
Day 1
When you board the Blue liveaboard at Male’s harbour, the crew welcomes you, shows you to your cabin, and runs through the week’s logistics over a cool drink. Once settled, there is time to set up your kit on the dive deck before dinner is served. The boat slips its mooring later in the evening, and you fall asleep already en route to the first atoll.
Core Days
This Blue liveaboard itinerary is built for variety, and over the coming days you sample 6 distinct atolls. North Male sets the pace with current-swept channels where reef sharks hold formation in the blue. At sites like Manta Point, you hover on the edge of cleaning stations while mantas drift in and out, their gill plates flared. Rasdhoo Atoll offers a contrast: Madivaru’s sloping reefs and the chance to encounter hammerheads further out in the channel for those with the experience to join the deeper drift.
Heading north, Baa Atoll takes over. Hanifaru Bay is the draw here, though you enter as snorkellers only: the bay is protected. If the southwest monsoon is blowing, the water thickens with plankton, and mantas gather to feed, sometimes in groups that number in the dozens. They barrel-roll at the surface, white bellies flashing, while you float above. Further inside Baa, dives like Dhigu Thila reveal cleaner wrasse at work on passing mantas, and the reefs are thick with fusiliers and bannerfish.
Crossing west into Ari, the focus shifts to whale sharks. Around Maamigili and Dhigurah, these animals appear with enough regularity that the crew can adjust the schedule to maximise your time in the water with them. They move with an unhurried calm, and you drop in ahead to watch them cruise past, mouths occasionally gaping. Ari’s thilas, Fish Head is a standout, hold their own appeal: Napoleons with curious eyes, schools of batfish that part and reform, and clouds of glassfish shimmering in the shallows.
The Blue loops back through South Male and Goidhoo. At Kuda Giri, a wreck lies in sand, its deck long ago claimed by batfish and leaf fish. Miyaru Faru, true to its name, channels grey reef sharks through a narrow pass, and you hook into the reef to watch them circle against the current. By the final days, the rhythm is familiar: dawn light on the water, the compressor running, and the quiet anticipation before each giant stride.
Final Day
Breakfast is served with the Blue liveaboard in Male. By the time you disembark, the crew has your bags ashore and a transfer ready for the airport.

You can set up your equipment, enjoy a drink from the bar and get to know your fellow passengers. The liveaboard will depart the following morning.
Core Days
This Blue liveboard trip includes dives at Ari, Felidhoo, North and South Male atolls, primarily in order to find manta rays and whale sharks, taking advantage of the boat’s mobility and flexibility. South Male features large schools of fish, big pelagics, plenty of soft corals and caves, as well as one very good wreck. Miyaru Faru is aptly named since ‘miyaru’ means shark in Dhivehi and not surprisingly this is where you can encounter the ‘big boys’. An overhang protects you from the current and provides an excellent viewing spot for the impressive parade of pelagics and patrolling grey reef sharks, or even the occasional hammerhead.
The channel at Felidhoo Atoll is also a great place to find reef sharks and has a spectacular wall showcasing caverns, swim-throughs and overhangs festooned with colourful soft corals and bushes of black corals. There is also a spectacular night dive with dozens of huge nurse sharks, sting rays and giant trevallies. Ari Atoll is famous for its mighty whale sharks which can be regularly seen in its marine protected areas.
Hammerhead sharks, manta rays and other pelagic fish are also commonly encountered here. North Male is characterised by reefs, caves, current-swept channels and drop offs. Highlights here include tuna, jacks, reef sharks, mantas and eagle rays.
There is 1 dive on the final day before the yacht returns to port.

Days 3-7
Diving at Huvadhoo Atoll features vibrant reefs, untouched lagoons, walls, and deep channels. It’s a haven for stingrays, turtles, and a variety of sharks including blacktip, whitetip, nurse sharks, and thresher sharks. Spinner dolphins and manta rays are frequent visitors, and hammerhead sharks are occasionally spotted.
Addu Atoll offers year-round encounters with manta rays, dramatic channel dives, and the British Loyalty wreck, the largest in the Maldives. Sites like Maa Kandu and Kuda Kandu are known for sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and eagle rays, while Gan Inside and Villingili Kandu showcase thriving coral gardens and pelagic action.
Fuvahmulah is a standout destination on this liveaboard trip, often called the “Maldivian Galápagos.” It’s 1 of the few places in the world where divers can encounter 7 shark species in a single day, including tiger sharks, threshers, hammerheads, and black oceanic mantas. The island’s unique location near the equator supports year-round diving with exceptional visibility and biodiversity.
But for many, the highlights of a visit to the Deep South with M/Y Blue are the apex predators at Fuvahmulah Island. Be prepared for awesome encounters with thresher sharks, oceanic whitetips and tiger sharks. Here you’ll dive with a variety of large predators as they hunt the abundant smaller fish. Whitetip reef and grey reef sharks, mola mola, sailfish, and schools of tuna are frequently seen.
Day 8
A final breakfast is served on the last day of the cruise. Disembarkation takes place in either Addu or Huvadhoo; please refer to your specific trip details. A short domestic flight will return you to Male, with all transfers and flights included in your package. Maldives Southern Atolls (8 Days / 7 Nights - 17 Dives)
Trip highlights: whale sharks, shark action, manta rays, schooling fish & big pelagics
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, healthy reefs, off the beaten track, wall diving
Dive sites and activities: Felidhoo, Meemu, Thaa, Laamu and Huvadhoo atolls
Day 1
This M/Y Blue cruise departs from Male and this route is ideal for guests eager to explore the southern atolls of the Maldives. Once onboard, you’ll be shown to your cabin and offered a welcome drink. The cruise director will introduce the team and provide a full briefing covering safety procedures, onboard services, meal times, and the daily schedule. You’ll also have time to complete any necessary paperwork, set up your dive equipment, and get to know your fellow guests. M/Y Blue sets sail later in the evening, marking the start of your diving adventure.
Core Days
The Blue liveaboard diving itinerary pushes south into less-visited waters, and the diving takes on a different character. Felidhoo Atoll sets the tone. At sites like Fotteyo Kandu and Miyaru Kandu, the currents pull through the channels, and you hook into the reef to watch grey reef sharks pass in loose formations. Tunas and trevallies hunt the edges, and eagle rays glide past with slow wingbeats. The night dive at Alimatha House Reef is a fixture: nurse sharks gather in the torchlight, resting on the sand, while stingrays move through the darkness.
Meemu Atoll offers a contrast. The reefs here are lush with soft corals, and the fish life is dense without the crowds. Grey reef sharks patrol the outer slopes, and schools of jacks turn in the light. Further south, Thaa Atoll feels genuinely remote. Gorgonian Garden is aptly named, with sea fans stretch from the reef, their colours muted at depth, while anthias drift in the current above. Olhugiri Kandu can deliver pelagic action: mantas at cleaning stations, hammerheads in the blue for those with the experience to join the deeper drift, and occasionally whale sharks passing through.
Laamu Atoll blends gentle inner reefs with exciting channels. Fushi Kandu is the standout: eagle rays here are common, and grey reef sharks hold in the current while jacks streak past. The topography shifts between sandy slopes and hard coral gardens, and turtles rest on the reef between dives. By the time you reach Huvadhoo, one of the largest and most isolated atolls in the Maldives, the sense of distance is palpable. The scuba diving here is raw. Deep channels cut through the atoll, and the reefs are untouched. Blacktip and whitetip reef sharks are constants. Nurse sharks rest in sandy patches. Thresher sharks appear on the outer edges, their tails longer than a man’s arm, and spinner dolphins sometimes race the boat at dawn. On rare days, sailfish or tiger sharks pass through, but the real draw is the abundance: mantas, eagle rays, and the quiet sense that this place sees few divers.
Day 8
Breakfast is served on the Blue liveaboard in Huvadhoo. The crew has your bags ready, and a transfer takes you to the airstrip for a short domestic flight back to Male.
Note: These trips sometimes run in reverse, beginning in Huvadhoo and ending in Male. Please check your specific trip details when booking.
