The Nautilus Two liveaboard offers a distinctive way to explore the central atolls of the Maldives and beyond. At 43 metres, this traditionally built wooden vessel, refreshed in a 2022 renovation, cuts a recognisable figure on the Indian Ocean. It is a boat built for the seasoned traveller, one who values genuine comfort and easy access to the Maldives' renowned dive sites without the need for overstated promises. The experience here is defined by space, a relaxed atmosphere, and the quiet confidence of a crew who have spent over a decade navigating these waters.

Onboard, the sense of room to breathe is immediate. The 12 cabins average an unusually generous 20 sqm, making them some of the most spacious found on any liveaboard vessel in the region. Whether you choose a lower-deck cabin or one of the 2 on the main deck, you will find air conditioning you can adjust, plentiful storage for dive gear and cameras, and a private bathroom. Life aboard revolves around unhurried moments: a cool drink from the bar enjoyed while soaking in the Jacuzzi on the foredeck, finding a shaded spot on the sprawling 400 sqm sundeck with a book, or sharing stories of the day's diving in the saloon, where a traditional fishing dhoni serves as the centrepiece for buffet meals.

The true heart of the diving operation, however, resides on the accompanying dhoni, Dhe Kafi. Here, your equipment stays set up for the entire safari, ready in your personal plastic crate. This separation of dive deck from the main vessel means the Nautilus Two liveaboard retains its peaceful, uncluttered ambience. The dive team knows the channels, thilas, and reef passes intimately. For those with the requisite experience, drift dives along the atoll edges are a highlight, with current hooks recommended. A significant enhancement to safety is the complimentary use of the ENOS electronic rescue and location system for every diver - a reassuring presence given the occasional strong currents, particularly on the more challenging southern routes.

Beyond the diving, the rhythm of the Nautilus Two safari allows for genuine connection with the Maldives. Meals are social, buffet-style affairs featuring international dishes and fresh local catches. Between dives, the shaded stern offers easy access for a lagoon swim, and the liveaboard crew are always on hand to pour a cold draft beer or prepare a sandwich. The atmosphere is one of understated professionalism; the 13 crew members, many long-serving, anticipate needs without fuss.

This blend of classic wooden boat charm, modern safety like the ENOS system, and unparalleled space creates a setting where you can simply focus on the reef, the company, and the reliable service of the Nautilus Two liveaboard crew who have made these waters their home.

There are 12 very spacious cabins in total on Nautilus Two: 9 double/twin bed cabins with king size bed and single bed (8 on the lower deck, 1 on the main deck), and 3 double bed cabins (2 on the lower deck and 1 on the main deck).

  • Toilet and hot water shower, hand basin, bathrobes and towels
  • Deck-hatch for additional ventilation
  • 2-pin mains outlet 230 volts - 24 hours per day
  • Cabinet, drawers, mirror and reading lights

Dive sites and activities: North Male, Baa Atoll with Hanifaru Bay, Rasdhoo Atoll, Guaidhoo Atoll, North Ari, South Male atolls

Day 1
A representative facilitates the boarding of the distinctive 43m Nautilus Two near Male International Airport. If your flight arrives early, you may take part in a check dive on this first day. Otherwise, Day 1 is focused on settling into your cabin, attending the vital safety briefing, and preparing your dive equipment. Meals, including lunch and dinner, are served according to the schedule, setting the scene for a relaxed and exciting liveaboard experience until nightfall.

Core Days
This Maldives Central and Northern Atolls trip is precision-designed for divers who demand the highest quality diving across the archipelago's most famed and productive grounds. This is an expedition with the cruise leader constantly leveraging local expertise to select optimal dive sites daily based on real-time conditions, current flow, and marine life sightings, ensuring the best encounters possible.
The diving campaign begins in the Central Atolls, exploring North and South Male. These areas feature complex underwater structures-thilas, pinnacles, and drop-offs-where strong currents pull in a constant parade of pelagic life. South Male is particularly renowned for challenging channel dives at spots like Miyaru Faru, where divers can position themselves to observe patrolling grey reef sharks and, on occasion, elusive hammerheads. A celebrated wreck dive in South Male offers a contrast, providing excellent opportunity for macro life nestled among sheltering fish schools.
The Nautilus Two transitions north, focusing on the world-class dive zones of Ari Atoll. The famous areas of North Ari and Rasdhoo Atoll are critical stops; early morning dives at Rasdhoo Madivaru offer the highest potential to spot schooling hammerhead sharks along the deeper drop-offs. Ari is universally known for its dedicated marine protected areas, giving guests the best chance for diving or snorkelling with mighty whale sharks.
Progressing further, the expedition reaches the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll. While SCUBA is restricted inside Hanifaru Bay, the Nautilus Two arranges a crucial snorkelling experience (seasonal from May to November) to witness hundreds of reef manta rays feeding in an incredible natural aggregation. Further exploration in Baa and Guaidhoo Atoll reveals healthy reefs and varied topography, ensuring a complete overview of the Maldivian underwater environment.
Throughout this extraordinary dive cruise, the Nautilus Two liveaboard operates as your professional gateway to these spectacular northern and central sites. Please be aware that only one morning dive is completed on the final full day of the trip.

Final Day
The day begins with a final breakfast aboard the Nautilus Two. Guests say their farewells and prepare for disembarkation. A late check-out is available, allowing guests to stay on the Nautilus Two until a later scheduled flight.

Maldives Central & Southern Atolls (Express)

Trip highlights: whale sharks, shark action, manta rays, turtles, schooling fish & big pelagics

Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, very popular, wreck diving

Dive sites and activities: North Male, Ari, Felidhoo and South Male atolls

Day 1
A representative greets you at Male International Airport and handles the short transfer to the Nautilus Two liveaboard. Depending on your arrival time, the crew may offer a check dive on a nearby reef to shake off any travel fatigue. The remainder of the day is set aside for settling into your cabin, completing the essential safety briefing, and setting up your dive gear in the dedicated equipment area. Lunch and dinner are served aboard as the vessel prepares to depart, marking the official start of your week on the water.

Core Days
This Maldives Central and Southern Atolls express route takes you through a carefully selected chain of atolls: North Male, South Male, Felidhoo, and Ari. The daily plan is shaped by the cruise director’s local expertise, with dive sites chosen to match current conditions and seasonal marine activity. Over the course of the week, you will experience a wide range of Maldives diving: exhilarating drift dives through channels where pelagic species patrol, explorations of submerged pinnacles that rise from the depths, and serene night dives that reveal a different side of the reef.
The tour begins around North and South Male Atolls, where the underwater topography is defined by steep drop-offs and scattered pinnacles. Strong currents funnel through the channels here, creating prime conditions for grey reef sharks, schools of barracuda, and resident Napoleon wrasse. South Male is particularly well known for its channel diving; sites such as Miyaru Faru offer consistent action, with sharks often cruising close to the reef edge. A wreck site in the atoll adds variety, its structure now encrusted with soft corals and serving as a gathering point for giant trevally and smaller macro life.
Moving south to Felidhoo Atoll, the diving becomes more adventurous. The channels here are narrower, the currents often stronger, which concentrates marine life in dramatic fashion. This is where the Nautilus Two positions guests for an unforgettable night dive at Alimatha House Reef. As darkness falls, dozens of nurse sharks, stingrays, and giant trevallies arrive, drawn by the lights of the moored vessels. It is a controlled, supervised experience that consistently ranks as a trip highlight.
The cruise then dedicates significant time to Ari Atoll, a region widely recognised for its megafauna encounters. The Nautilus Two uses its local knowledge to locate cleaning stations where manta rays gather in numbers, typically between December and April. For whale sharks, the focus is on the channel mouths and reef edges where these gentle giants filter-feed. A visit to nearby Rasdhoo Atoll adds a further dimension, with early morning dives on deep outer reef slopes that offer a chance to encounter schooling hammerhead sharks. Across these central atolls, the mix of dive types keeps each day fresh: high-energy channel dives in the mornings, more relaxed reef explorations in the afternoons, and the occasional night dive to round things out.

Final Day
The last morning begins with a relaxed breakfast, time to compare logbook notes, and final photos of the week’s encounters. Guests disembark the Nautilus Two and are transferred back to Male airport.

A liveaboard safari in the Maldives follows the rhythm of the ocean, and on the Nautilus Two liveaboard, that rhythm is designed for your comfort and enjoyment. The day is structured around your dives, with ample time to relax, enjoy good food, and share stories with fellow guests.

The days begin early, but without any rush. A light breakfast is usually available before the first dive, setting you up for a morning exploration of the blue. The dive deck on the accompanying dhoni, the Dhe Kafi, is where you'll gear up. You can expect 3 dives each full day of the tour, except on the final day when a single morning dive precedes the return to Malé. After a dive, there's always time to unwind. The spacious Nautilus Two offers plenty of space to find your own quiet corner-perhaps on the sun deck under the shade of the sail, or in the shaded stern area with its easy access for a refreshing dip in a lagoon.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the light-filled main saloon of the liveaboard. Here, a striking feature is a 5-meter-long traditional fishing dhoni, which elegantly divides the restaurant area and doubles as the buffet table for presenting the daily dishes. Meals are a sociable, buffet-style affair. The Nautilus Two chef prepares a varied mix of local and international recipes, using chicken, fresh fish, and vegetables. You might find fragrant Maldivian curries one evening, and a hearty pasta or a fresh salad the next. It's simple, satisfying food made to replenish your energy.

Between dives, the hospitality continues. Hot tea, coffee, fresh water, and fruit juice are available around the clock, and you'll often find small snacks and sandwiches put out to tide you over until the next meal. It's these touches - a cold drink after a dive, a quiet coffee as the sun rises - that make the Nautilus Two experience feel so effortless.

In the evenings, the Nautilus Bar comes into its own. The bartender is on hand to mix cocktails or serve a cold draft beer, and there is a selection of wines and spirits.
One evening, the crew will take you ashore for a true Maldivian experience: a barbecue picnic dinner on a deserted sandbank. It’s a simple, memorable evening of good food under a vast sky of stars.
