Both wrecks are now completely colonised by vibrant hard and soft corals, serving as excellent artificial reefs for schools of snapper, big tuna, and jacks that cruise along the reef edge.
The tour continues at Elphinstone Reef, one of the Red Sea's most famous dive sites. Elphinstone features steep drop-offs and plateaus that are magnets for marine activity. The reef is home to large schools of colourful reef fish, including surgeonfish and fusiliers. This exposed pinnacle is also known for potential sightings of oceanic whitetip sharks and thresher sharks, completing the experience aboard the Hammerhead II.

Core Days
You will dive at some very special and world famous reefs and wrecks. Ras Mohamed is one of the best kept national parks in Egypt. Its waters are rich in nutrients, attracting pelagics, and in the summer months even schools of scalloped hammerheads might visit. The most famous wreck in the Red Sea, the SS Thistlegorm, will leave you in awe: it was sunk in 1941 after being bombed by the German Luftwaffe and lies upright on the sea-bottom at 32m. With its historical cargo of World War II machinery and equipment, all neatly stowed in its open holds, the wreck of the Thistlegorm would be a highlight of diving anywhere in the world. The Rosalie Moeller, carrying a cargo of coal, suffered the same fate just 2 days later. The north side of Abu Nuhas features 4 wrecks on a steep sloping reef layered with table corals. The wrecks here - the Giannis D, the Carnatic, the Chrisoula K and the Kimon M - are an attraction point for divers from all around the world, as they are now encrusted with beautiful corals that attract lots of reef fish. Inside the wrecks expect to find thousands of glassfish.
The Straits of Tiran are one of the most famous diving areas in the Red Sea. The strong current brings plenty of nutrients and schooling fish to the reef, tempting pelagic fish in from the open water. Large schools of barracuda and jacks are common here, as are larger predators including several species of shark.
There will only be 2 dives on the last day of diving as the boat will then sail back to port for the final evening. You can then take a look around the marina or go for a drink.

Trip highlights: turtles, schooling fish & big pelagics
Diving environment: advanced divers, beginner divers, drift diving, very popular, wall diving, wreck diving
Dive sites and activities: Shaab El Erg, Dunraven, Mahmoudat, Dahab: Blue Hole, Canyon, Gabr El Bent; Ras Mohamed, SS Thistlegorm, Sharm El Sheikh, Tiran Island, Gubal, Abu Nuhas, Hurghada

The cruise director follows with a detailed safety briefing and an overview of the week ahead. The yacht departs overnight, positioning for the first morning’s dives.
Core Days
Over the coming days, the Hammerhead II brings you to the Red Sea’s most celebrated northern dive sites. The safari weaves together legendary wrecks, dramatic reef systems, and the rich marine life of Ras Mohamed. You will explore the SS Thistlegorm, a wreck that needs little introduction. Resting upright on the sandy seabed, this WWII cargo ship holds a haunting cargo of Bedford trucks, motorbikes, and munitions. 2 dives here let you absorb the scale and history of the site, with light filtering through the hull to illuminate the stowed machinery. Nearby, the reefs of Abu Nuhas offer a different kind of wreck diving. The Giannis D, Carnatic, and Chrisoula K lie along a sloping reef, their steel skeletons now draped in soft corals and alive with glassfish swirling in the holds. It is a site that rewards slow exploration.
Moving south, the waters around Ras Mohamed deliver drift dives along walls like Shark Observatory and Yolanda Reef. Here, the current brings nutrients that support dense coral formations and draw pelagic fish closer to the reef. In summer months, schools of scalloped hammerheads may pass through, though the resident barracuda and trevally are constants. The Hammerhead II then navigates to the Straits of Tiran, where 4 reefs rise from the seabed. These reefs are magnets for marine life. Strong currents sweep in schools of snapper, batfish, and fusiliers, with grey reef sharks sometimes patrolling the drop-offs.
Diving also extends to Dahab, where the Hammerhead II anchors near the iconic Blue Hole and Canyon. These sites are known for their dramatic topography. The Blue Hole’s open archway at 56 metres is for experienced divers, while the shallower rim and surrounding gardens offer vibrant coral and abundant reef fish. The Canyon’s series of interconnected swim-throughs creates a labyrinthine dive, with light shafts breaking through cracks in the ceiling. Other sites like Gabr El Bent and Shaab El Erg add variety, with the latter often hosting sleepy nurse sharks beneath its ledges. Between dives, the yacht’s spacious sun deck and shaded lounge provide space to relax, review underwater photos, and share stories as the desert coastline slips past.
On the penultimate day there will be 2 concluding dives. After the second dive, the Hammerhead II returns toward Hurghada, giving you time to wash and stow gear, enjoy a final lunch, and prepare for disembarkation. A last evening on board lets you reflect on the week’s highlights.
Day 8
The following morning, after breakfast, it is time to pack and say goodbye to the Hammerhead II liveaboard crew. Transfers to the airport or local hotels can be arranged.
