The voyage continues aboard the Sea Serpent to the isolation of Daedalus Reef, an offshore atoll identifiable by its distant lighthouse. This remote location guarantees deep drop-offs where the strong currents draw in large schooling fish and apex predators. Experienced divers know this is the best location on the route for potentially witnessing oceanic whitetip sharks and the magnificent whale shark.
The final highlight is the famous pinnacle of Elphinstone. Its steep, current-fed structure is a perfect set for wide-angle photography, framed by fields of gorgonians and colourful soft corals. Keep your focus on the blue water, as Elphinstone often attracts manta rays and thresher sharks. Core Days
This powerful dive cruise is purpose-built to combine the raw excitement of offshore pelagic encounters with the stunning biodiversity of the southern Red Sea's protected reefs. The first major highlight is Daedalus Reef, an isolated, current-swept pinnacle marked by a prominent lighthouse. Drift dives along these extensive sheer walls provide unparalleled opportunities for observing large ocean traffic. Divers regularly scan the deep blue water for schooling scalloped hammerheads, oceanic whitetips, and the seasonal possibility of spotting a thresher or whale shark. The drop-offs themselves are densely packed with vibrant soft corals and large sea fans, frequently visited by turtles and manta rays.
From the exposed marine park, the Sea Serpent liveaboard navigates to the extensive Fury Shoals system. This network of barrier and horseshoe reefs is celebrated for possessing some of Egypt's most pristine coral environments. We explore notable areas such as Wadi Fury Shoal: Gimal, Abu Galawa, and Sha'ab Sharm. Abu Galawa is a memorable stop, featuring a shallow wreck alongside thriving coral gardens. Sha'ab Sharm and Gimal are known for their magnificent hard coral formations and diverse populations of reef fish, making this sector a rewarding experience for underwater photography.
The adventure reaches its climax at the world-famous Elphinstone Reef. Its exposed position ensures strong, nutrient-rich currents, attracting big fish to its steep north and south walls. These walls are richly adorned with gorgonian fans and provide a reliable location for observing oceanic whitetip sharks and hammerheads. The final deep south experience aboard the Sea Serpent is truly spectacular. The diving finishes the day before disembarkation with a maximum of 3 scheduled dives before the Sea Serpent returns to port.
