Elegante is a 25m long sailing ketch, powered by a 260 HP Iveco diesel engine at a cruising speed of 10 knots. With a maximum capacity of just 14 guests, it is an ideal Sudanese economy liveaboard. Sudan is famous for its shark encounters, February to June being the best time to see hammerheads, as well as other shark species and large schools of fish. Manta rays are also present from September to October.

There are 7 guest cabins, each with its own private bathroom. Meals are served al fresco, towards the stern on the main deck. They are a mixture of rice or pasta dishes with a variety of sauces, salad, fresh fish or sashimi, vegetables, and meat. Also at the stern of the yacht is a social area, where you will find lounging beds for relaxation after a dive or sleeping under the stars. There is a small indoor saloon with a TV and DVD player that is used when it rains, and also a drinks bar.

The kit up area is on the deck of the Elegante mothership and 2 x 55 HP 5.75m motorised dinghies take divers out to all the best dive spots. The saloon has charging points for underwater cameras and torches so that you won't run out of power just as the hammerheads arrive! During these liveaboard cruises, guests have the option to make visit to the historic port of Suakin.

To prevent emergencies, Elegante has several important redundancy installations. 2 generators, 2 tenders, and 2 compressors ensure a smooth expedition. The only eventful liveaboard safaris in Sudan with Elegante will be those that are memorable for the right reasons.

Day 1
A staff member will meet you at Port Sudan Airport and transfer you to the port for boarding the Elegante liveaboard . The crew will greet you on board with a welcome drink, show you to your cabin, and provide a detailed boat briefing that will help familiarize you with your new home for next week. Dinner will be served in the saloon and this will be a great opportunity to get to know the other guests on this cruise. The boat will leave port early the next day.

Core Days
More and more divers are discovering a new destination in the Red Sea, an underwater paradise, more wild, more virgin, and totally off the beaten track. An underwater world caught in a time capsule, practically intact, unexplored. Welcome to Sudan! This is the classic and best-known route in Sudan. You will dive the world famous Umbria wreck and renowned reefs like Sanganeb and Shaab Rumi. There we will dives with schools of barracuda, jackfish, tuna, sharks, spectacular coral gardens, and the famous and nostalgic remnants of the Pre-continent II of Jacques Cousteau. You will also visit the Suakin Archipelago and dive on pristine coral reefs with enormous fan corals, a huge amount of marine life, with big game fish, whitetip reef sharks, grey reef sharks, oceanic whitetips, and hammerheads.
All meals are served outside at the table, outside at the stern of the boat where the dining area situated. There is also a smaller dining area inside the saloon in case of rain. The meals consist of breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus there are some snacks and fruit. Drinking water, tea and coffee, soft drinks, and beers are available onboard. The food is typically a combination of Italian, international and local cuisine - rice, pasta, salad, fresh fish, vegetables and meat.
The morning of the final full day will be spent diving until around 1 pm, then the yacht will make its way back to port by early evening.

Day 8
Disembarkation is at 10:30 am, after breakfast. The crew will then transfer you back to the airport.

Notes: Children of any age are welcome to share a cabin with their parents on Elegante. Child 0-12 years old - free of charge, child 12-16 years - USD 467.

Dive experience: Only divers experienced in strong current and deep diving should join in Sudan liveaboard cruise with MSY Elegante.

Cruise price per person includes: Cabin accommodation with air-conditioning, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinking water, fruit juice, hot drinks, return transfers from local airport or hotels, dives (as detailed in the trips above), 2 experienced English-speaking divemasters, tanks (12 or 15 litre), belt and weights, all taxes.

Cruise price per person excludes (mandatory, unless customer provides own): Scuba equipment rental (USD 187 per week), port fees (USD 40), local taxes (USD 242 per week), diving and travel insurance. Unless otherwise stated, all the listed items need to be paid on arrival (cash only - EUR and USD).

Optional extras: Soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, dive computer, torch (USD 23 per week). Unless otherwise stated, all the listed items need to be paid on arrival. Note: prices of items purchased onboard are subject to change.

How to get there: Elegante departs from Port Sudan for its Sudan liveaboard trips. The first and last nights of the cruise are spent in the harbour. Guests arrive and board any time on the first day. There are flights from Cairo to Port Sudan (PZU) with Tarco, Egypt Air and Sudan Airways. This is a much easier route than flying into Khartoum. Elegante will pre-arrange your "visa on arrival" (USD 310, or USD 260 for USA nationals).
The last dive of the trip will be at 1 pm on the penultimate day before the boat returns to port by 5-5:30 pm. Please wait at least 18 hours before flying after diving. Guests disembark at 10:30 am on the final day.

Single supplement (if you do not want to share accommodation): This is optional - single travellers may choose to share a cabin, or pay a supplement of USD 758 for their own cabin.

Dive clubs and group discounts: Pay for 10 guests and 1 extra person can join the tour free of charge.

Whole boat charter rate (per night): Pay for 12 guests and 2 additional persons can join the tour free of charge (total 14 guests).
